Yessssss!
Well, first of all, we now have our first Christmas tree up, complete with lights and lit star. Now we just need to add ornaments! Yea! Then I'll add the tree skirt--I don't want it to gather needles if any come off while we hang ornaments. :) We are very excited, especially since we weren't sure about getting one this year. We figured they'd be expensive in Florida, and we'll be traveling some through the Christmas season. We got a 7+ ft. Douglas fir for $26 plus tax! Woo hoo! Thank you, Lord, for such a fun blessing our first Christmas. :) Sorry the pics are just so-so, but we wanted to go ahead and get some up. :)
I also "arrived" as a teacher this week. Not really, but it felt like it. I was subbing on Monday for the 5th grade class next door to the one I subbed before Thanksgiving. I heard a student walk by the door and ask another, "Who's that?" Since the students switch classes for reading and math, I had met some of the students from the new homeroom when I was with the one next door the previous week. I heard a student answer, "That's Mrs. Kubo." Then, "Awww man! Mrs. Kubo is STRICT!" I almost died laughing. I wanted to do the "Home Alone"-esque fist-pumping "Yessssssss!!!!!" Do I have high expectations? Yes. Do I enforce the rules? Yes. I don't know that I'd totally consider myself, "strict," but if the students want to give me that reputation, by all means.... :)
Lastly, our church, along with its daughter church and the RUF ministry on campus, bought out a theatre for a Thursday night preview of the movie Narnia, and we got tickets!! We are so excited. :) We are excited for an opportunity to see it and for a chance to fellowship and meet people.
That's all for now. We had a good visit with Matt's friend, Bryan (he even ate 2 pieces of the pumpkin spice bread I had made :) ), and now we're decorating the tree. Have a wonderful week!
Love,
Becca
p.s. Tomorrow is my first "overlap" day with my new class and the teacher I'm replacing!! Eeeek and exciting. :) I much appreciate your prayers as the class and I begin this transition. I'll be with them Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week on a "get to know you" basis. I hear they are quite anxious that I'm from TN. ;-)

hahaha Becca...any teacher that doesn't let students go crazy when they want is strict...it's like a kid code or whatever. I'm praying for you that your overlapping goes well and that everything eases into the perfect place.
I just have to say this even though it is totally random...When I see the pic of the Christmas tree with the lights off it makes me think of that song by Vanilla Ice. Ya know, "Turn off the lights and I'll glow". I am not sure why but every time I glance at the picture I just start singing the song in my head. I know that you miss my randomness and crazy mind!
Is that an original Nintendo next to the tree? Retro gaming at its best.
