Just a little note to say we are getting A/C! :) Woo hoo!
After asking around to several coworkers at Matt's work and my school, we came up with the same name repeatedly receiving glowing reports. And it was even one of the contractors we had contacted! We are sooo thankful for God's clear leading in that. :) Initially, they were going to come July 15, because they fix "emergency" cases of people with NO air conditioning before people who are replacing but still have a/c. That was okay until the house became hotter and hotter and more and more humid. Seriously, I woke up 4 times one night because I was so hot and sticky--and we had the ceiling fan on high and believe me, I was sleeping on TOP of the covers. Whew! The final straw came when we noticed a very hot "overheating" smell coming through the registers and near the furnace closet after the a/c has run. I called yesterday, and our contact said he'd check the calendar this morning. PRAISE THE LORD, they're going to come a week from today instead! We are SOOOO excited (and so is Sammy who has taken to napping on the hard wood or tile floor instead of her beloved couch... we assume because the floor is much cooler than the couch). We can't wait for a/c that actually works!
Other than that, Matt's plugging away at work, I've been enjoying my first full week of summer break with little jobs here and there before I teach summer institute next week. I went to an inservice on our new reading curriculum yesterday. Wow. Does it ever have a lot of components! I've cleaned out the guest room and some of the garage. I am also working my way through my classroom, finally having time to carefully go through things the previous teacher left in the room and decide what I really want to keep (and being able to set aside some things for a brand new teacher who'll be in 3rd grade next year).
In other school news, our district's budget has been slashed for the 2nd time with more cuts expected. This latest round resulted in art and music being cut in half for elementary schools. Art and music teachers will have two schools each--they'll teach at one first semester and the other second semester. I kind of feel like it's the kind of thing you hear about happening "other" places. It makes me a little nervous about my position with the magnet program, as the magnet program requires a great deal of extra buses to run. They could cut the magnet program county-wide, I suppose. But the good news I am holding onto (not that anyone has suggested magnet is in immediate danger of being cut) is that I am now on a TENURED contract!! :) :) So, I guess they'd have to find me a job SOMEwhere in the county even if I couldn't stay at my school (but I do think they'd try to keep me.... I hope they would!). I don't mean to concern anyone, because it really hasn't been mentioned recently as a possibility. It was just brought up as something the county COULD do awhile back.
Our weekend plans include deacon training for Matt and then a coworker is replacing the timing belt in Ace (another praise as it will be $100s less than at the dealer). So Matt will hang out with him while he works on the car. I think I'll do some sewing... I'll just need to move the floor fan to the dining room as it has no ceiling fan, and as I mentioned the house is HOT. I want to make a sandwich wrap-and-mat with some fabric I just got, maybe a lunch bag with some fabric I got, and I would like to sew for Lakey's baby shower. :)
Well, this turned out longer than I expected. I need to go get my hubby in bed, because even though I can sleep in (happy sigh), he has to head off to work in the morning. I have had the distinct pleasure the past two weeks of having lunch with him several times while I've been on break. I do love that man! :)
We are looking forward to seeing many of you soon as we trek northward!
Love,
Becca
