Encouragement!

Awesome email from one of my student's parents :)

Mrs. Kubo -
Thanks so much for helping the children in your class to make
fraction bars that they could bring home to use in doing their
homework. It looks like it was a lot of work on your part, but
it made all the difference in the world in [student]'s homework experience
this evening. The fraction bars are really helping her to get a feel
for equivalent fractions!!

Praise the Lord!

Miss Becca,
Do tell! Are they easy to make? I have a couple little "fraction learners" and another that will be learning them before we can blink.

Kim,
They had a blackline master of some in our teacher resource book, but I couldn't find it when I needed it. :) So, I made some in Word. I will email it to you. :) I had them label each fraction bar piece (there's a long bar to represent one, then two that are each half of that, three that are each a third, etc.) with its fractional value, color them so they coordinate with the plastic ones we use from the math kit in class, then I laminated them, and my students each cut their own out. They wouldn't *have* to be laminated, but since I can do it for free and it makes them more durable, I did. :) Still interested?
Miss Becca :)
p.s. PLEASE give each of your kids a BIG hug from me!!!
