Matt to the Rescue!

Last night Matt saved me from a kitchen catastrophy. We have a little disposal cover--the kind with some holes so liquids can go down, but you can't accidentally send your utensils down the disposal. ;) Well, ours fits very tightly, so I generally avoid using it. Last night I was cleaning up some dishes and the disposal cover fell into the sink and then a dish bumped it solidly into the beginning of the disposal drain. No matter what I did, it wouldn't budge! I tried prying it on one side or the other, but that didn't help. I piled ice on top of it, hoping the platic would shrink and give me some room to work with--no change. Matt was at work and beginning his test down in the shop, so I couldn't reach him. I called my parents, and my dad suggested hooking a coat hanger (or two) through the drain holes of the cover and lifting it up.

Shortly thereafter Matt came home and set to work on my predicament. I even had an egg shell JUST below the cover that I hadn't been able to run down the disposal before the cover became wedged. First he tried to pry it with a knife (an old one, not a new one :) ). Then I got him a coat hanger and just like that, he had it out in no time!! Hooray! He's such a good husband and fixer. :)

P.S. Today we stopped at Sonic for a cool treat on our way about town and to home. Matt picked the strange concotion of a "bubble gum" and "watermelon" slush.... poor guy! He said it tasted like medicine. I picked a lemon berry cream slush--quite good. I have to say, it was very pink, but unlike the "Rory," it did not taste pink. It did not taste like I was drinking a My Little Pony. It tasted yellow, probably from the chunks of lemon sitting in the bottom of the cup. Gilmore Girls references aside, isn't funny how tastes can evoke a certain color?

Matt ran out to rent a movie, and then we're going to chill.... only 3 hours until my birthday!!

P.P.S. Matt introduced me to the "side dish dinner" tonight. We had mashed potatoes and mac & cheese... it was quite good. We had a late lunch, and it was just right to end the day's meals.

LOVE you,
The Birthday Girl
