BECCA the Builder

This morning I decided to try to construct our new headboard. I generally really like putting together furniture (or whatever else, like building legos according to a directions pamphlet), but sometimes the ambiguity of instructions written who-knows-where can be confusing. I decided to go for it anyway, as a surprise for Matt and so we wouldn't have to spend time together on my birthday weekend working on the headboard.

So, the box was very well sealed. This 80 lb. lug was difficult to even open! But I got it open, removed all the pieces and parts, and then I set to work. Step by step, the headboard was coming together. I even got to use the cordless drill--woo hoo!! It has a really pretty cherry finish that perfectly complements our bedding, and it seems pretty sturdy, if I do say so myself. :)

The only snag came when I was ooching it into place. Two of the weird screws you put into the "cam locks" broke right off their heads and one of the bottom panels was just hanging there on one side. At first I thought the screws just came out, so I tried to re-align them. Then, upon closer inspection, I realized there was a clean break just below the screws' heads (2 screws). I went and found 2 screws and drilled them in myself. Good as new!! Even as a Kubo, I can jerry-rig according to my Guilford roots. :)

It was fun, and I can't wait for Matt to see it. It adds a very nice touch to the room, and I finally have a place to put my glasses when I go to sleep! Yea and praise the Lord for another successful building adventure. :)
