I am so glad we get to "fall back" tonight! I knew fall was my favorite season. ;)
Last night we went to Matt's coworkers' for a cookout. The guys talked while the burgers grilled, and the girls talked in the kitchen while cookies finished baking. We had great hamburgers, pasta salad, chips, and yummy cookies (I had 2, even though they had chocolate). It was nice to get to know them better, and they gave us great ideas of some things to do around here. It sounds like there's a really cool festival in a nearby town next weekend. It's my birthday weekend, so we'll see. But it sounds fun, and they also said there are lots of festivals this time of years in the little surrounding towns. After dinner, we had a fire on the back patio. At one point we were discussing driving in the snow, and I related Brad's frustrations with Knoxville drivers after having lived in Boston, and right then the fire exploded! I'm not kidding--one of the cinder blocks they used to "contain" the fire now has a chunk missing! The men in particular really wanted to figure out what happened. They mentioned they had collected pine cones from the back yard and put them in the wood box. I remembered hearing somewhere that pine cones can explode, and I told Matt that when we got home. We tried to google it, but we haven't come up with anything conclusive yet. Anyone else have any ideas or heard about pine cones exploding?
Today we slept in, hung up a few pictures around the house, and then we went shopping. Oh, and I also made waffles and bacon for breakfast. Matt was going to make breakfast for us, but he has a cold or something. He had a low-grade fever last night when we got home--chills and muscle aches. :-( I gave him some advil and it seemed to let him sleep through the night okay. Then he needed more this morning, but he's holding up well. We went to look at televisions and sound systems. The one we thought was a great deal at Sears is not flat screen, so that gives Matt some time to decide... he's not working against an expiring sale now. He did find a sound system he liked though. And we found a reasonably priced entertainment center that we both like if he does upgrade the tv (the new tv would be too big for our current entertainment center).
Lastly, while at Sears to investigate televisions, we returned something, which enabled us to get Matt a set of drill bits. He had a set of drivers for his cordless drill, but no drill bits. He picked a nice set that's coated to go through metal without gettng dull or something. He went to get me some cheese for dinner, and then he's going to finish the bar stool. I did everything but screw on the seat and stabilize the legs, because it looked like a good power tool job for my husband (I LOVE the cordless drill, but he hasn't had many projects that needed it, so I saved this project for him). :)
Tonight looks to hold a movie after dinner and the promise of a scrumptious milkshake. :)
We miss you and love you! One week until my birthday! :)
Love,
Becca

Okay, Matt Kubo! Why did you keep this milkshake thing a secret until you left the state? When you come in for a visit Brad and I are first in line for these famous milkshakes! We love you!
