Apron: Success; Oven Mitt: Nosomuch

I decided to check out my fabric stash last night to see if I had any fabric suitable for lining the oven mitt. I did! I was so excited! Back at the beginning of the year, a teacher set out several cuts of fabric free for the taking. Those cuts (which I scooped up in a heartbeat) included a simple pink and white stripe--perfect!

So I set to work on the oven mitt. Basically it boils down to me underestimating just how much I needed to make my pieces oversized to accommodate seam allowances and turning a very bulky final product (2 layers of batting in the top and 2 in the bottom--to protect hands from heat). The wrist is tight and the thumb is too skinny (for me) to turn. Bummer. :-( It looks so cute... if only I could turn the thumb, maybe I could re-do the wrist. Oh well... live and learn, right? I have now printed off a "pattern" from someone online, and it is indeed much bigger than mine was starting out.

But you just have to see the cuteness, even if it's not really usable. And I love the idea. I loved quilting the layers together in fun swoops and swirls. Ariana and Joy are making seasonal pillow cases for their kiddos. As much as I love that idea and my husband is wonderful, I'm not sure what he would think of my stock-piling seasonal pillow cases for children that do not yet exist. :) So, I'm thinking seasonal oven mitts! :)

So, here you have it. The oh-so-cute (in my humble opinion) and now defunct oven mitt.

First of all I have to say that maybe Matt would like to have seasonal pillow cases for his pillow! Ha ha ha! Seasonal oven mitts are a great idea though!

I am so sad about the oven mitt! It looks so cute! Stinky thumb! I am proud of you for sticking with it and trying again! I probably would of been a little overly frustrated and flung it around the room or something lovely like that. Try try and try again! You can do it!!! It really is super cute even if it would not turn right side out!!!

It would have been SOOOO cute. I'm sorry it didn't come out right. I bet it'll be perfect next time. Don't give up, okay? :)
