Accolades

(If you haven't already, look one post below and see the direct side-by-side before/after comparisons of three rooms in the house). :)

I have to give MAJOR "props" to some products I have come to love since becoming a home owner...

I first heard about Bar Keeper's Friend (BKF) when I was interning at the child development lab. The head teacher commented about how great it was. If you've been baking cookies for awhile and get some of that black-ish gunk built up in the corners of your cookie sheet, she said it would take it right off! It sounded amazing, but I had no reason to buy any at the time

The water here in FL is heavy-laden with minerals. After leaving some hand-washables to soak in a sink at the townhouse, I found rust stains in the white sink basin! I decided to see what BKF was all about when I read it would remove rust stains. I bought some, left it to soak as a paste for a couple minutes as the directions suggested, and WITHOUT scrubbing, the rust stains buffed right out of the sink!! When we finally got inside our new house, it was pretty obvious the bathrooms hadn't been cleaned in a long while. After using Mr. Clean and various other products, my mom said she would get some Comet and try it the next day. I told her I had this BKF stuff that's in the same category as Comet and she could try it. It cleaned the tile in the snap of a finger! Mom LOVED it!! She even bought her own at Publix to take back to TN with her!!

We spotted Krud Kutter at one of the home improvement warehouse stores while searching for various odds and ends for the house. There was some dried on latex paint on the lanai tiles. Uncle Randy spotted it and tried it later that afternoon. He said he BARELY grazed the spots with a paper towel after following the directions (leaving it to "soak" and do its job) and the who-knows-how-old paint spots came RIGHT off!! Yea!

The previous tenant did not exactly keep the oven and stove top clean, which brings me to the next (and last) 2 products for now. The oven has a glass cook top, which looked like it had dried on food and boiled over water baked and encrusted on it. I figured we'd just have to live with most of it. Dad was sure the special glass cook top cleaner would take care of it. I tried to remember the kind Stephanie had (the stuff we got smells the same at least :) ), and he meticulously removed every speck! It looks WONDERFUL! He had to use a scraping blade (carefully :) ) as suggested for the major problem areas. But now I just wipe it down with the special cleaner each evening, and voila! A wonderful looking cooktop!

And lastly, Joy told me about a new Easy Off oven cleaner when I mentioned that I still needed to clean our stove. She said she had to go check the name of the stuff she last used because it worked wonderfully and had NO fumes! While at Walmart today, I spotted it and picked up a bottle. It's Easy Off Fume Free (with lemon scent). And you never heat your oven to use it! You spray it inside, leave it for 2 hours to do its "thing," and watch the gunk and grime wipe away when you go back! It's AMAZING! There were a couple spots in the crevice between the oven and the door I could have covered well that I'll do soon, but the oven pretty much looks like it was just delivered! Thank you, Joy, for telling me about it!

Three cheers for these wonder-products!! :)

I am so glad that you found the oven stuff and I am also glad that it worked wonders for you! I love that you do not have to move out of the house because of the fumes! :) It does clean quite splendidly as well.

I think that Krud Cutter has its own infomercial if you are ever bored late at night. :) I am glad that it worked for you. Maybe you could even be on the infomercial one day! Just a thought. J

There was an infomercial on for Kaboom the other night. I cannot remember what you are supposed to use it on but Kaboom the yucky stuff was always gone. If you ever try it let me know if it works. I may have to sneak it into the grocery cart one day and try it for myself. :)

Thanks for all the fun suggestions. I think that I might have to try the BKF also sometime. I love "products". I have a whole cabinet of products that do not work and then there are some products that do work. I am sure that Brad sends a million thank yous for trying out some new things for me so that I do not have to buy them and put them in the back of the closet. I love hearing about good front of the closet kind of products! Thanks!

Ariana and I use Weiman's too. Between that and a razor, it keeps our cooktop looking brand new. The flat cooktop is GREAT as extra counterspace when bringing home groceries and such.

FWIW, I got a great razor holder and refill pack at my local Walgreens. I use that thing all the time. I scrape any trouble spots every day or two and then use Weiman's twice a week.

The razor holder looks like this:

If you hadn't referred to your wife, I wouldn't have known who you were! And, YOU shopped at.... Walgreens?!?!? I guess you really do have Guilford blood, huh? :)

We'll look for the razor holder--does it store them when you're not using them, or do you use it to grip them while you're using them? They're building a Walgreen's right across from my favorite Publix market, so I'm very excited. :)

Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment, Matt! We LOVE you! :)
