What's that? We got a cat? No (absolutely not!), it's the return of FCAT.
FCAT scores were delivered to the school today. I had a head's up, because a co-worker told me yesterday at church that the school would be getting some score information today. I got called to the principal's office (eek!) during my plan period....
Overall, the students we were concerned about did well. Only one of them actually got a 1 (mandatory retention) on the reading portion of FCAT. But, there were 2 we were not expecting to struggle so much who also got 1s. Those 3 will have a chance to take another standardized test this summer, and if they pass that they can be promoted. We are also waiting on NRT (norm-referenced test) scores, and if they get a particular percentage on the NRT, they may also be promoted. It doesn't mean the ones who eeked out more than a 1 will not be retained--they still could be based on classroom performance--but the state will not require their retention.
I wish more of my students got 3s (I had several 2s), but it's my first year and not all kids are great test takers! I heard that overall, the number of 3rd graders "failing" the reading section at my school dropped more than 10% this year compared to last year! That is GREAT news, and I'll celebrate that for sure! I am also very glad for the students we were concerned about who earned the score they needed to NOT be in the required retention category. Praise the Lord!
I am off to enjoy dinner with my hubby. :) I haven't done REAL grocery shopping in 3 weeks because of travels and visitors and such. AND I needed household goods today along with replenishing good ol' staple items from not shopping for 3 weeks, and I was STILL under budget. Hoorah!
Love and blessings,
Becca :)
