So, I thought I'd give a little update. :)
The week is halfway over--woo hoo!! Only two more days until the weekend. Have I mentioned how time is passing more quickly and more quickly? We will be down to THREE weeks until our Knoxville trip (I CAN'T WAIT--I mean, I can, but, you know). I'm hoping we MIGHT leave Friday after school to come up. Last time we left Friday at 1, we could probably leave around 2. On Fridays and right before vacations, we can leave when the students are accounted for. So, I might be able to leave school just after 1:45 and meet Matt at home if he works over and uses flex time that week. It would be WONDERFUL! I think we teachers are ready for spring break JUST as much if not more than our students. ;)
We are 2/3 done with FCAT tests. I am really surprised Connor doesn't start until next week, Kim. They seem SOOO ultra-vigilant about test security, I'd think they'd be afraid someone up here would talk to a cousin or friend down there about test questions. Maybe you all will have a different set of questions. All I know is my students took way TOO little time on the math portions today. Yikes! Maybe we'll get a GOOD surprise in a couple of weeks with the scores. :) They're plugging along though. :) I had one students with quite a personal ordeal today. Shortly after testing began, he had to go to the bathroom. Well, if a student gets out of his/her seat, his/her test has to be invalidated--they might see another student's answer. The poor kid wiggled and jiggled for about 50 minutes!! He seriously looked like he was in pain and about to explode. As time wound down, we had ONE student finishing his test. I stood by G--the student badly in need of the bathroom, and my proctor stood within an easy reach of T. As soon as T's test was completely in my proctor's possession, I tapped G and told him to go. He walke VERY briskly across the room and picked up a pencil to record his name on the bathroom sign-in sheet. I said, "No! Don't write your name; just go!" He dropped the pencil on the floor and flung open the bathroom door. Very soon afteward, he returned to his seat where he told me, "I feel so relieved." It was heartbreaking watching him struggle to wait and hilarious to watch him and his "relief." :)
Today I had THREE compliments! One was from the sub whose had my kids both times I've been out--for new teaching inservice and the flu. I leave some type of code up for my kids to "crack" after their morning work each day. It's turned into a BIG thing in my room, and they're getting very good at it (thanks to Ashley's mom for the idea). I started out with "codes" of the first letter of each work in the phrase. After several weeks the class announced those were too easy. I'm now doing rebus type codes where they have to identify the pictures and add/subtract the indicated letters to form the necessary words for the phrase. The sub saw me in my corridor after school and stopped to tell me how amazing my drawings are. Now, don't get me wrong--I was never destined to be an art major. :) But I DO have fun and enjoy artistic endeavors. I really appreciated his compliment, especially when the teacher next to me saw tomorrow's and thought the horse was a donkey. :)
Secondly, a parent was very cooperative and respectful and agreeable on the phone. I really, really appreciated that. :) His demeanor was very complimentary.
Thirdly, an administrator asked if I would be willing to be mentored by a newly certified National Board teacher at my school, particularly with the aim of incorportating technology like SMART BOARD (!!!) into my classroom. I am SO excited!! :) Not only do I get to work with a GREAT teacher, but it sounds like they are wanting to work me toward a Smart Board classroom--woo hoo! Sign me up! It's also confirmation that they want to keep me around. ;) Always a good thing. God is so faithful!
Tonight I think Matt was going with a coworker after work to the UF medical library to look up some stuff for work. Tomorrow he's going on a dinner for a client or prospective client--I don't remember. Friday my principal is hosting a happy hour at her house for being almost done with FCAT. I'm not exactly sure what to do, since I do not drink. But I think I'll at least stop by. I'm getting to meet even more teachers during FCAT, because they switched around my lunch schedule. Now I eat with kindergarten and first grade teachers and the special areas teachers. Two of the kindergarten teachers are first years, so I got to meet them at the new teacher inservice meeting I most recently went to.
I guess that's about all. We are starting to dabble in looking at houses. Maybe I'll post some pics of things we've seen...
We love you and hope you have a great day!!!
Loving (and missing) you,
Becca
