3...2...1... CONTRACT!

Today when I checked my mailbox after school, I found my contract! I'd been told I might not even receive it until summer, which made Matt and I a little uncomfortable, even though it's apparently standard procedure in this district. They only mail contracts once or twice a year, so no matter when you're hired, you just have to wait around for the next mailing. Weird. Anyway, it came. They still have Guilford on everything, even though our admin. assistant sent in a copy of my new SS card and driver's license. We'll see what name my next check has on it...

Today was pretty good with the kids. I am so anxious about the sub on Monday though! I SOOO want them to be good and choose what's right. And I'm still getting the hang of the pace at which they work, so I'm worried about if I left enough/too much work for them. I'd much rather err on the side of too much. I guess we'll see how it goes! I have all sorts of subliminal messages interspersed throughout the day. In the morning, I put up a "code" for them to "crack" as part of their morning work. The solution to Monday's is "Mrs. Kubo wants a good report." :) hehe Hopefully they'll take that hint. :)

Tonight we used some gift certificates to go out to dinner. I am very strangely exhausted for having worked only 3 days this week, although I DID keep very busy as home Monday and Tuesday. Also, when I got my new license plates on Tuesday some PUNK kid (you know I don't usually talk that like, so you know how "impressed" I was with him) got in his car when Matt and I were standing and talking RIGHT next to mine--i.e. I was leaning on my car. He threw his door open, it hit my car, and it hit it hard enough that my whole car shook. He said he didn't do any damage, and at a glance I didn't see anything. Then a few days later I went to get something from my passenger side. GRRRRR--he dented the front quarter panel and it POPS and makes HORRIBLE noises when you open the front passenger door. I am SOO frustrated!! I know it's just a thing, but that's TWO things now on my car that have not been my fault AT ALL. Why can't people/mailboxes just leave poor Ace alone??? One of the things it's scraping against is "inside," so we should be able to file it. But it also catches on the outside, and if we filed that we'd ruin the paint job and invite rust to inhabit Ace--not gonna happen. Annnnnnd, most of my kids failed major sections on a reading test this week, not fun as a new teacher. And then they took a math test today, and while I do have one student who scored a 35%, and on the whole they are better than I thought they were at first glance, I still have lots of tests under 70%. It's SO frustrating that they get things in class, during oral questioning, during written exercises, and then totally lose it on a test! It's especially hard as a new teacher not to question yourself or not worry your administrators will wonder what/how exactly their new teacher is trying to teach!

So, you could say Satan threw a couple wrenches in my day. But God gave me a sweet husband to comfort me and a WONDERFUL, MERCIFUL Savior even more than that. As I tell my kids *all the time,* DO YOUR BEST! I need to tell myself that, I think. :)

Matt is hoping to change his oil and go fishing. I have a few polishing touches to do for the sub coming Monday (I typed 6 pages of notes... I think I'll have Matt read them and see what he thinks... it's just so hard to explain all the details of how our day runs). I also want to get the guest room cleaned up again. Every time I get everything put away, we bring more things down from TN, or in this case, I switched out decor for Christmas. I am well on my way to having it back in order, though. It will be nice to have that bright, sunny room for lesson planning and rubber stamping.

Now, I must go figure out my measurements for sweet Erin who is ordering bridesmaids' dresses tomorrow. I am the matron of honor, so I should probably honor her request. ;)

Have a blessed weekend!
Love,
Becca

Becca,

You are so sweet to be concerned for the sub. I hope you have looked at it from your experience subbing. What did you expect? Was it the classroom teachers fault if the kids took advantage of a sub??? I say no! That is what kids do. Some anyway. Enjoy your day getting paid and not teaching. You won't have too many.
Soo good to hear you are doing well. We hope to be visiting Uncle Bud this month or March. I will let you know.

Love and miss you,
Trudi.

You're so cute! honor...honor HA! Let me give you a tip on subs! :) My first one was for your wedding, here's how it went. I spent hours upon hours, getting my plans incredibly specific so she could do exactly what I do. Then I spend all the time making ALL the necessary copies, organizing them and leaving them all for her to be able to get to easily. Then you know what she came in and did? Some of the stuff I wanted, she did it her way, and she did some stuff she wanted. Her own way. The kids know that it's a sub and not you...and you know what's gonna happen, they'll tell the sub, this isn't what Mrs. Kubo does. And the sub will either do what they say or she'll say well since I'm here today lets just try something new. So there's no need to get overly detailed drive yourself nuts and freak out over a sub. :) Plan stuff that's easily changed and lots of oral stuff cause you don't want to grade anything the sub gave. That way there's lots of flexibility on your and their part.

Becca !!!! Six pages of notes? I know parenting and teaching school are not the same thing, but remember when I finally allowed a "sub" ie: Becca the fabulous sitter come fill in for me with the children? I actually laid out their toothbrushes with the precise amount of toothpaste already dispensed. . . laid out the routine and probably had it timed within the "15 minute" window!! Ha! Stressed myself out a little too much if you ask me! At some point I gained perspective and realized it did not HAVE to be exactly like it was when I was home . . and that was OK. The kids were fine . . in fact they were great. Just like your students will be. :)
