This afternoon I tried to assemble our etagere for the master bathroom--just a little extra storage to keep hand towels, wash cloths, and some toiletries right at hand and not overcrowd the cabinets under the sinks (we are spoiled with double sinks in our master bath :)).
Anyway, I remember Aunt Loreen saying at the Thursday night family dinner before the wedding that she actually really enjoys driving rental trucks (think U-Haul). Well, I have to confess, I actually really enjoy putting together furniture. You know that particle board kind? Perfect for newlyweds. :) We have some fantastic pieces of "real" furniture, but a put-together particle board bookshelf or headboard is not completely beneath us. ;) I successfully built our headboard, so I thought I'd take on the etagere.
I got the cabinet part fine--everything lined up really nicely and seemed very sturdy. Next I assembled the lower portion according to directions. Unfortunately, it would not slide down behind the commode, because ours is very close to the wall. So, I had to disassemble the lower supports and then reassemble them after i had the pieces aligned and positioned behind the commode. A little bit of a challenge considering the tight space, but I did it. The only problem was I managed to drop a few pieces in my screw driving attempts. One toe received repeated smashings, and it has not stopped throbbing. It's starting to look a little crooked too, but I'm hoping that's just my imagination--and that it was Matt is for. He will prevent me from becoming a hypochondriac and let me know if my toe looks funny or not. Thankfully, it's not my big toe, so there are no (more than normal) balance issues to contend with. And it's not my right foot, so driving should not induce extra pain either. :)
Now I'm supposed to attach the cabinet to the bathroom wall, but I'm having trouble getting the screws started, so I'll wait for Matt.
**UPDATE** As I suspected, my toe is not broken--it's just swollen, bruised, and cut. I didn't really think it was broken, but I've never had a broken toe (or anything else), so I didn't know what it would feel like. So, good news! My toe will be better without any bone mending. :) I'll post pics of the etagere when it's done. :)
