So last night Matt and I made a little jaunt over to the Sprint store. We have had our phones for 2 years, so we wanted to take advantage of their free upgrade program. Two years of continual service with the same phone gave us each $175 credit towards a new phone. In addition, they have a good mail in rebate program going on through this week. So we browsed around. I wanted to go as cheap as possible, but when it came down to it, the difference between the basic (camera) phone and a slimmer, spiffier phone was $20. So, Matt got the Motorola Razr vM3 and I got the Sanyo Katana II. They are both super slim and have cameras (a toy we admit we wanted access to). Here's the "problem." I like mine AND I like Matt's. We have 30 days to exchange if we change our minds for any reason. So, I figure I'll use mine this week and then decide what I want to do. I mean, I can't go wrong. But, I'm really having trouble deciding!
Here's the deal. I like how the Katana is fun. It has cute borders for your pictures, you can customize the sound for when it turns on and turns off. It has a better main screen and little external screen than the Razr. It has a stopwatch and a countdown timer built in. It's lighter than the Razr. Overall, it has a "cute" Japanese kinda fun feel. It doesn't hurt that it's pink, too. That's another thing.... I might keep the Katana II, but switch to the silver or black. I wanted something different, and I had a silver phone before. But, do I really want a really PINK phone for the next who-knows-how-long? At least two years, assuming Sprint keeps the upgrade program going. I don't know.... But there are some things I really like about the Razr. It flips open and closed more smoothly and easily, the keys feel bigger and the keypad IS bigger because the phone itself is wider and fits nicely in my admittedly large-ish hands (for a girl), it's supposed to have a super duper internal antenna that does a great job of finding and keeping a signal, it has a 1.3 megapixel camera instead of the Katana II's VGA camera, it has a video recorder, which is very cool. It also has some more fun ringtones than mine. I know that's all silly. And really, it's a PHONE. And don't get me wrong, I am grateful to have any phone at all, much less a new one, and a tricked-out new one at that! But I just can't decide! I go back and forth and back and forth. If I got the Razr, I'd get a red one, so it would be easy to tell apart from Matt's. We'd also then have the same kind of charger, etc. which would be easier to coordinate when we're on trips together (though Matt said he doesn't care about that).
So, as random as this is, any advice? I think my plan for now is to take advantage of the 30 day option for exchange and use mine for a little bit before I decide. BUT, I just realized the mail in rebate program ends on the 15th (you must purchase by then).... so I might have to decide by then to get the rebate option on a Razr!

Oh frustration! This always happens to me! I am never happy with the phone that I choose or the dinner that I order etc. and Brad's always looks so much better than mine! What is with that? I have almost decided to just always get the same but then life would not have quite as much spice! ;) The phones that you guys chose look a lot a like as far as the slimness. I think that the pink is pretty cool! I like being a little different so I think that is pretty neat-o! If you keep the phone I vote to keep the pink! I know that you would get red if you switched phones so that is a little spice in your day at any rate! Good luck with the decision making! I would probably give in and get the same just from my past experiences but you do have to love the Japanese fun!
hahah Oh B! You make me laugh! Well with all that you talked about I like the Katana much better! (I had a bad experience with motorola and I don't like all the static that Adam gets on his razor so I vote no.) However, when I looked at the picture the Katana made me laugh! It looks so much like a little kid "cell phone". The kind that candy comes out of instead of actually makes phone calls. :) So aside from that I vote on the Katana. :) Did that help?
I think the pink one is cute! I actually have NO idea which one you should choose...but I hope you enjoy whatever you pick! :)
Love, Mom
