I know this is totally random, but Matt and I realized for the first time last week that Sammy has an under bite. We have nothing against under bites, but we just thought she looked so funny! :) I don't recall her having an under bite with her puppy teeth, so guess this is a new development. She looks like a little bull dog. :) hehe You can't really tell in this picture, but it's our best shot of her teeth so far. :) No wonder she used to swallow her food whole!

Since we're on the subject of Sammy, let's journey back in time to when we got her. Here is a shot of her in her crate the week we adopted her...

Do you think she's grown a bit? She's up to about 30 lbs., although I honestly don't think she looks big enough to be 30 lbs. It must be a lot of muscle. ;)
We also ordered a computer armoire for the den, so we can continue the finalization of our two spare bedrooms (one as a guest room and the other as a "man room"). As such, and since we (I) love the challenge of put-together furniture, we ordered a Sauder armoire that needs to be assembled. It arrived today, and unfortunately, I can't quite put it together yet. Despite AMAZING packaging (truly), one piece has a corner broken off. However, look how PERFECTLY the color of the "wooden" armoire matches the wood floor in the den!!! I thought it would closer to a pine color (though I wanted it to match our floor), but it's a perfect match!!

Let's see... some other news... Grandpa's memorial service is Saturday, so please be praying for the family, especially that day. Matt has his performance review tomorrow, and I have my second observation Thurday. I think I'm finally feeling like I won't be sick at the thought of an observation. It will be during reading, which pretty much runs itself with my new centers. I found some neat online reading comprehension games to add to my computer center this afternoon. I've had two good parent conferences and one good student conference.
My kids are REALLY excited about their new writing prompt about being "president for a day" (in honor of President's Day). It ought to be interesting.... being the rather creative third graders that they are, we voted on several elements of the story we will compose as a class and the outcomes were quite unique! Our president for a day story will include the likes of George Washington, and we will be in China as president, not for a speaking engagement or to meet with dignitaries, no... we are in China because we were hungry for Chinese food and wanted the most authentic Chinese food possible. And then, oh no! Our problem! The winning problem was that the Great Wall of China collapsed and buried us--we need to get out! As I recall, one of our "try/fails" at solving this perplexing problem will be to use our cell phone (of course.. yes, even my 8-9 year old students are indoctrinated in the world of wireless technology). The winning "solution" is that a strong man will pull the ancient stones off of us. Yes, this will be an interesting narrative composition. :) After we compose this prompt as a class, my kids will each have a chance to write their own. Then, our next prompt is going to be switching places with ME--teacher for a day, and I'm a student! Now THOSE will be some interesting stories. :)
We are gearing up for FCAT! We're almost down to only 10 instructional days until the assessment begins. Before that, though, I have my observation, we need to compose some Valentine's poetry, continue working on cursive, finish the 3rd grade math book (only double digit multiplication and division stand in our way), have a Valentine's Poetry tea party (hence writing Valentine's poetry.... we will READ Valentine's poetry as a back up), and plan a hands-on science and/or social studies unit for the FCAT weeks. I think we might revisit our Ancient Egypt unit for one afternoon and make sugar cube pyramids. Then we can do some work finding the perimeter and area of the pyramid's footprint, as well as the volume of the pyramid. I have some fun energy/sound activities coming up too that I am excited about. Oh, and then next week I'm going home for the long President's Day weeekend to see family and especially baby Sam!! We'll also all be in town (the Guilfords, that is), so we're celebrating Dad's birthday (tomorrow) on the Sunday I'll be there. I haven't been part of a party back home since Mom's birthday before we got married. I'm really thankful to be with them for a birthday. :)
I'll leave you with one last thing for now. This is totally cheesey, but yes, we're still newlyweds. And yes, it made me giggle and grin.
Matt (to Becca): You're hot!
Becca: I am?? Who'd you steal me from?
Matt: Everyone else.
All together now..... awwwwww. I love my hubby. :)
Blessings to you!

Actually, I was REALLY surprised it was broken, because they did an AMAZING job packaging it! It was better packed than anything I've seen. They are UPSing the replacement piece and it should be here soon. They were extremely polite, will email me when the piece is shipped, etc. I was really impressed. :)
This was a fun "day in the life" of blog!! I love your ideas about 3rd grade curriculum! Sure wish I could sit in on some of your classes...they sound fun AND educational--a major accomplishment!
I will certainly be praying for your whole family, Grandpa's homecoming celebration and your Dad's birthday! You'll have to post some pictures of everyone wearing their hats...even baby Sam!! :)
WOAH...Sammy is GINORMOUS!!!!! Good thing she's not sleeping in bed with you--"roll over, I'm crowded!" ;)
kitsy
You are amazing!!! I don't put ANYTHING together. I guess it's because I'm missing that Guilford gene. But then my name was never Guilford, it was Giblin, close but not quite. :) ANY GOLLY!!! SAMMY'S HUGE!!! I didn't realize she would get so big. Well I hope you are having a good week and I hope we can catch up soon at some point. :)
Charis still has Sammy beat on weight! :) I am excited for your new computer holder! Do post pics when it is finished!!!
